New Zealand: Out with Jesus, In with Mohammed
Back in late 2017, the New Zealand parliament scrubbed all references to Jesus, humility and the glory of God from their daily parliamentary prayer. While not removing the word ‘God’, no specification is made any longer to which god they are praying to.
Original version:
Almighty God, humbly acknowledging our need for Thy guidance in all things, and laying aside all private and personal interests, we beseech Thee to grant that we may conduct the affairs of this House and of our country to the glory of Thy holy name, the maintenance of true religion and justice, the honour of the Queen, and the public welfare, peace, and tranquillity of New Zealand, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
New Version:
Almighty God, we give thanks for the blessings which have been bestowed on New Zealand. Laying aside all personal interests, we pray for guidance in our deliberations, that we may conduct the affairs of this House with wisdom and humility, for the public welfare and peace of New Zealand.
Amen
Now, a scant 2 years later, after the Christchurch shooting, prayer is welcomed back into parliament:
Not a prayer to Jesus, or God the Father mind you, but a prayer to the god of the people who are overrunning every western nation. I wonder if, heaven forbid, there are Christians murdered if the Lord’s Prayer will be recited. You don’t have to say it, we all know the answer …
Once Jesus is removed from a country, I don’t believe there are any examples of Him ever being welcomed back in. New Zealand is gone.
